As well as inventing the international hit Footballers’ Wives, Paul Marquess was Executive Producer of The Bill and Family Affairs – and Head Of Drama at Thames Television. Paul also Series Produced Brookside and Hollyoaks for C4. He created Murder Investigation Team for ITV – as well as Crime Stories for ITV Daytime and five series of improvised police drama Suspects for C5 – which was remade in both Germany and The Netherlands. Paul created and Executive Produced four series of crime drama London Kills (Acorn TV in North America and BBC1 in the UK) – and has written a number of episodes. Paul has recently completed production on series 4 of Hope Street, the Northern Irish drama he co-created with Susanne Farrell for the BBC and Britbox North America. He also wrote the first and last episodes of the series.
Metropolitan
David McLoughlin’s producing career spans over twenty five years. He cut his producing teeth with the film version of the Colum McCann short story ‘Fishing the Sloe Black River’, which he produced in 1995. Following which he gained extensive production experience working with a number of leading Irish production companies on major feature features such as Jim Sheridan’s The Boxer as Trainee Producer, and the Noel Pearson produced Dancing at Lughnasa directed by Pat O’Connor with Meryl Streep in the lead role. This culminating in him being appointed Head of Production with Irish Screen, which at the time was the principal Irish producer of BBC commissioned movies and television dramas. In his producing role with Irish Screen, he co-produced for BBC Films Vicious Circle, starring Ken Stott, and The American, starring Matthew Modine, as well as the BBC drama serial Aristocrats, directed by David Caffrey. He was the Producer for Irish Screen of its feature film When the Sky Falls for Sky Pictures, with Joan Allen in the lead role, as well as the feature version of the Spike Milligan book Puckoon, which featured Richard Attenborough and Elliot Gould amongst the ensemble cast. He laterally produced a number of feature and television projects through his own production company, Distinguished Features including Dead Bodies, with Andrew Scott winning the best actor IFTA for his lead performance, and the Alan Gilsenan directed Zulu 9, having previously produced Alan’s earlier feature film All Souls’ Day. David was selected by the Irish Film Board as the Irish producer for the European Film Promotion ‘Producer on the Move’ initiative at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003. David continued his producing roles, diverted for a time from film to opera production as Chief Executive of Wexford Festival Opera. David returned to the world of film and television production to join the producing team in Metropolitan Films International. Recent productions on which David has been engaged as Executive Producer for Metropolitan include all three seasons of ‘Harry Wild’, starring Jane Seymour, the drama series for Dynamic Television, AMC, ZDF, & RTÉ; ‘Silver’, a feature film for Amazon Studios and Germany’s Constantin Film; which is currently in post production, and season two of ‘KIN’, the highly successful crime drama for BRON Studios, Headline Pictures, AMC, Viaplay, Screen Ireland and RTÉ, which recently completed its Irish premiere screening on RTÉ. Previous productions on which David has been engaged in a producing role include; the six-part futuristic drama ‘Moonhaven’ for AMC Studios, and ‘Redemption’, a six-part drama for ITV, Virgin Media Television, Screen Ireland, and the BAI Sound & Vision Fund, which won the best drama award at the Royal Television Society Ireland Awards 2023. David is currently co-producing the US feature film ‘Anniversary’ for Fifth Season and Lionsgate, starring Diane Lane and Kyle Chandler, which recently completed its Irish shoot. David is a former Chief Executive of Screen Producers Ireland and is currently Vice-Chair of its Film and Television Drama Committee. He was recently appointed to the Steering Group of the National Talent Academy (East) for Film & TV. In 2002 he co-founded, and was the chair for the first five years, of the Dublin International Film Festival.
Co-founder and Producer at Deadpan Pictures
Since forming Deadpan Pictures with Paul Donovan in 2014, Ailish and Paul have produced some of the most critically acclaimed TV shows to come out of Ireland, including Can’t Cope Won’t Cope, and Dead Still, establishing Deadpan Pictures as the comedy drama production company in Ireland. In 2024 Ailish is currently in production or post production on four drama series; Video Nasty, a 6 x 30’ comedy-drama series with a horror twist for BBC, Virgin Media Television, WDR (Germany) in association with Screen Ireland/ Fis Eireann and Northern Ireland Screen. With Boat Rocker Studios handling international rights. Irish Blood, a 6 X 1hour murder mystery for AMC/ AcornTV. A coproduction with Shaftsbury in Canada with Alicia Silverstone in the lead; This is Not a Murder Mystery, a 6 X 60’ darkly comic period murder mystery for the New8 and Studio Canal made in coproduction with Panenka in Belgium; Showkids a 6X 30’ family comedy written by Hugh O’Connor from RTE and APC Kids. In 2023 Ailish produced Northern Lights, a 6 x 1 hour drama series for TG4, Streamz and ZDFNeo in association with Screen Ireland and Lionsgate TV. Previous productions include The South Westerlies, a 6 x 1 hour ratings hit for both RTE and Acorn Women On The Verge, a co-production with Merman for UKTV and RTE, the critically acclaimed Can’t Cope Won’t Cope for RTE / Netflix / BBC3. Nowhere Fast for RTE and the multi-award winning web series, Burning Wishes. Ailish also produced the feature film Halal Daddy (2017) under Deadpan. Prior to establishing Deadpan Pictures Ailish was Head of Production and Producer for Grand Pictures. She is a graduate of Inside Pictures 2019, TransAtlantic Partners 2013, Eave 2007 and holds a diploma from UCLA in Film Development and a B.Sc in Film and Broadcasting from DIT. She was a founding member of the Irish Chapter of Women in Film and Television.

Brendan J Byrne, Producer/Director, Brendan is an internationally recognised filmmaker who has been involved with the production of over 15 feature length films in the last 10 years in both the fiction and nonfiction genres. Brendan’s latest narrative fiction film as Producer THAT THEY FACE THE RISING SUN, received its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival in October 2023 (Director Pat Collins) won the ‘Best Film’ award at the 2024 IFTA’s and Best Actor at the Dinard British and Irish Film festival. The film has been a box office sensation in Ireland in 2024. Brendan produced GAZA which received its world premiere in competition at the storied Sundance Film Festival in 2019 and along with IN THE SHADOW OF BEIRUT, both film’s were selected as Ireland’s official entry to the Academy awards in the Best International Feature and Best Documentary feature categories in 2020 and 2024 respectively. Brendan’s other narrative feature films as producer include JUMP (TIFF 2012) and MAZE (2017), which topped €1million at the Irish box office and is currently available on Netflix. Brendan’s debut feature documentary as Director / Producer was the internationally acclaimed BOBBY SANDS: 66 DAYS (2016) which went on to become the most successful Irish documentary at the box office that year. Other recent feature documentary credits include MY NAME IS BULGER (Discovery +), THE RYAN McMULLAN STORY (BBC) and ONE MILLION AMERICAN DREAMS (Hulu). His 2018 short subject documentary HEAR MY VOICE (BBC) qualified for the 2019 Oscars. Other recent productions as Producer include, Netflix Original Documentary MERCURY 13, GEORGE BEST: ALL BY HIMSELF (BBC/ESPN Films), BEHIND THE BLOOD (IDFA 2019), AN ENGINEER IMAGINES (BBC/RTE). As Executive Producer, CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE (Hotdocs 2019), ELIAN (Tribeca 2017 /CNN Films), and Amazon Originals NO STONE UNTURNED (Director Alex Gibney). Brendan is currently working on several ‘book to screen’ adaptations including SKINTOWN, based on the novel by Ciaran McMenamin and AMONGST WOMEN, based on the novel by John McGahern, as well as a range of exciting feature documentary projects currently in production.

Selected as a Broadcast Magazine Hotshot in 2008, Ben has worked extensively in television drama as a story writer, producer and creative lead. He joined Three River Fiction from ITV in 2014 to lead its drama slate. Ben identified the IP that led to the commission and production of Deon Meyer’s TRACKERS, and executive script and story produced the six-part international drama series for HBO (Cinemax), ZDF and M-Net. A South African co-production, the series was show-run by Robert Thorogood (Death In Paradise), and directed by Jyri Kahönen (Borderland). The series premiered in South Africa in 2019 and launched in the UK on Sky Atlantic in 2020. The series received a SAFTA nomination for Best Drama Series in 2021. Ben is a criminology graduate of Cardiff University and joined Three River Fiction from Emmerdale where he was a storyline writer and editor on over a thousand episodes of the long-running ITV serial drama. Prior to that he was a Development Editor for ITV Drama Commissioning, working on a range of network productions including ‘Primeval’, ‘Poirot’, and ‘Law and Order UK’ to name but a few. Ben is currently developing a slate of international TV projects. His original film about women’s football in Scotland in the 1960’s has been commissioned to script by the BBC, with Andrea Gibb (Elizabeth is Missing), writing. The project is a co- production with Synchronicity Films. He is co-creator and creative producer of a six-part crime drama for ZDFS and CYTAVision and is co-producing with Cypriot company Splash Screen Ent. The series was shortlisted at MIA 2021. He is also the co-creator and EP of another crime series co-production with Copenhagen outfit GRÓ Studios. The IP based series, optioned by Three River Fiction, will be written and co-produced by Torfinnur Jákupsson, creator and head writer of TROM (BBC4). Ben developed and this year executive produced the four part thriller DEAD AND BURIED for BBCNI, Virgin Media International and All3Media International. The series is written by Colin Bateman, directed by Laura Way and stars Annabel Scholey and Colin Morgan.
