About

The unlikely Irish film sensation of the year saw Belfast rappers KNEECAP take the world by storm with their Irish language semi-fictional, self-titled feature film. KNEECAP was produced by Fine Point Films and Mother Tongues Films, and co-produced with Wildcard.

Funded by Northern Ireland Screen, the Irish Language Broadcast Fund, the BFI, Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, Coimisiún na Meán and TG4, with backing from Great Point Media, the film has taken $4.25million at the box office, beating the previous Irish language record holder, Oscar nominated An Cailín Ciúin. In this panel we’ll explore the funding model for the film, the interest in indigenous language film and ask why this particular film has struck a chord with audiences worldwide.

This panel will be chaired by Irish Language Broadcaster, Tessa Fleming and panellists include Áine Walsh (Head of the Irish Language Broadcast Fund), Prionsias Ní Ghráinne (Commissioning Editor, TG4), Patrick O’Neill (Managing Director at Wildcard Distribution) and Kneecap writer and director, Rich Peppiatt

Gaeilge

Is feiniméan neamhghnách agus scannán Éireannach na bliana é KNEECAP, ina bhfeictear rapálaithe Bhéal Feirste agus iad ag baint cáil amach ar fud an domhain sa scannán lánfhada Gaeilge seo, atá bunaithe ar an leathfhírinne agus féinainmnithe i ndiaidh an ghrúpa iad féin.  Tá KNEECAP léirithe le Fine Point Films agus Mother Tongue Films, agus comh-léirithe ag Wildcard.

Maoinithe ag Scáileán Thuaisceart Éireann, an Ciste Craoltóireachta Gaeilge, BFI, Fís Éireann, Coimisiún na Meán agus TG4, le tacaíocht ó Great Point Media, tá $4.25milliún saothraithe ag an scannán in oifig na dticéad, méid níos airde ná An Cailín Ciúin, a sháraigh achan curiarracht do scannán Gaeilge roimhe agus a bhfuair ainmniúchán ag na hOscars. Déanfaidh an painéal seo plé ar phlean mhaoinithe an scannán, an rath atá ar scannánaíocht teangacha bundúchasacha agus ag fiosrú cén fáth a raibh an oiread sin tóir ar an scannán áirithe seo i measc luchtanna féachana ar fud an domhain.

Is í Tessa Fleming, craoltóir Gaeilge, a bhéas mar chathaoirleach ar an seisiúin agus ar an phainéal beidh Áine Walsh (Ceannasaí an Chiste Craoltóireachta Gaeilge), Prionsias Ní Ghráinne (Eagarthóir Coimisiúnaithe, TG4), Patrick O’Neill ( Wildcard Distribution) agus Stiúrthóir KNEECAP, Rich Peppiatt.
