Screenwriter & Author
Ronan Bennett is a Bafta-winning Northern Irish screenwriter and author, raised in Belfast and now living in London and Spain. He is best known as the creator, showrunner, writer, and executive producer of the critically acclaimed crime thriller series, TOP BOY. With thirty two episodes across five seasons, it was originally developed and commissioned by BBC Northern Ireland as a film, but after being dropped from their slate, series one and two were then commissioned and broadcast by Channel 4 from 2011, before being cancelled in 2014. Three years later, after interest from Canadian rapper Drake, Netflix announced that they would revive the series. It concluded in 2023, with season five. Ronan’s most recent series, THE DAY OF THE JACKAL, is an adaptation of the Frederick Forsyth novel, and is currently streaming on Sky Atlantic and Peacock. Starring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch, the series was directed by Brian Kirk. Ronan is also penning a new series for Paramount+ entitled THE DONOVANS, loosely based on Showtime’s popular drama RAY DONOVAN. Guy Ritchie is directing and executive producing. The series stars Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. Ronan’s other writing credits include the Sky Original film DEAD SHOT (2023); the historical mini-series for BBC and HBO GUNPOWDER (2017) starring Kit Harrington and directed by J Blakeson; the BBC series HIDDEN written in collaboration with veteran American screenwriter and film producer the late Walter Bernstein; the crime biopic PUBLIC ENEMIES starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale and directed by Michael Mann; and the crime film FACE starring Robert Carlyle and Ray Winstone, amongst countless other credits. Ronan has also published numerous novels, all of which are politically and socially motivated.
