We have three of the most exciting composers and sound designers working in the UK and Ireland to talk about how they use audio to bring immersive experiences and games to life.

Chipzel

Composer, Sound Designer and Producer
Chipzel is a BAFTA nominated, award-winning Composer, Sound Designer and Producer from Northern Ireland. Chipzel comes from an internet subculture of tinkerers, makers and curious creatives known as Chiptune which has roots in the first computer art movement known as the Demoscene. A recognised pioneer of the Chiptune scene, Chipzel’s prolific musical career has seen her touring the world, bringing her acclaimed sound across the globe. With multiple studio albums, countless beloved original Videogame Scores and iconic performances, Chipzel is best loved for her idiosyncratic original works including Super Hexagon, Spectra and Dicey Dungeons.

Katie Richardson

Musician, Songwriter, Composer and Sound Designer
Katie is a musician, songwriter, composer and sound designer who currently makes her own music under the name Hex Hue. She was a touring member of Choice nominated ‘Pleasure Beach’ and has worked with musicians such as Foy Vance and Duke Special as well as supporting artists like Van Morrison, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Bell X1, All Saints and many more.In 2015 she was featured as one of the Irish Times 'Northern Lights' which profiled people changing the face of Northern Ireland in their particular fields. As well as working as a composer, songwriter and sound designer for many theatre, dance and film companies, Katie also composes for and curates spectacular live, collaborative performances in unique and beautiful settings. In 2023 Katie was awarded a place on The Space Programme in Paris where she had the opportunity to collaborate, create and develop new projects with a group of International artists and creative technologists. Most recently she sound designed and created an immersive composition for Belfast 24’s Shadowdock, situated in the Thompson Dry Dock.

Mark Fabian

Composer
Mark is a Hungarian composer, currently based in northern England, with nearly a decade of experience creating music for television and video games. He has collaborated with indie game studios like Head Empty Studios and Indie Shark Games, both part of the thriving game development scene in Yorkshire. Mark’s versatile style blends orchestral and contemporary influences. His expertise extends to implementation, as he works closely with developers to integrate dynamic, interactive music systems using middleware, creating an audio experience that enhances gameplay.‘Mark also works as Music Operations Manager for The Nerve Music, an independent production music publisher focused on working with up-and-coming artists from around the UK to supply music for Film, TV and digital media.’
