Shelly Love is an award winning artist and director. She originally trained at The Laban Centre for movement and dance in London and worked as a choreographer and performer before turning her hand to ﬁlmmaking. Her interdisciplinary background and experimental approach have resulted in the creation of her unique voice as a ﬁlmmaker. Traversing the lines between movement and ﬁction her ﬁlms are uniquely choreographic and poetic in nature. The settings and characters are fantastical and surreal yet utterly human. To date she has devised, written and directed numerous short ﬁlms, music videos and commercials. Her ﬁlms have screened at ﬁlm, dance and arts festivals worldwide and have been broadcast many times on Channel 4.
She has won a number of artistic prizes and industry awards for her ﬁlms which have also been featured in industry press on numerous occasions. She continues to work as both and independent artist and writer and director within the industry. Shelly has a number of ﬁlms and projects in various stages of development and has just directed her debut feature ﬁlm, A Bump Along The Way, A Northern Irish Screen – New Talent Focus ﬁlm. A Bump Along The Way won ‘Best Irish First Feature’ at Galway Fleadh and had its International premier at the prestigious Toronto Film Festival. The ﬁlm is being distributed by Element pictures and will be released in cinemas throughout the Island of Ireland from Oct 11th. So far the ﬁlm has screened at 40 cinemas throughout Ireland. Recently A Bump Along The Way made it into the various categories in the long list for the BIFA’s including best breakthrough director.
