Shelly Love

Shelly Love is an award winning artist and director. She originally trained at The Laban Centre for movement and dance in London and worked as a choreographer and performer before turning her hand to filmmaking. Her interdisciplinary background and experimental approach have resulted in the creation of her unique voice as a filmmaker. Traversing the lines between movement and fiction her films are uniquely choreographic and poetic in nature. The settings and characters are fantastical and surreal yet utterly human. To date she has devised, written and directed numerous short films, music videos and commercials. Her films have screened at film, dance and arts festivals worldwide and have been broadcast many times on Channel 4.

She has won a number of artistic prizes and industry awards for her films which have also been featured in industry press on numerous occasions. She continues to work as both and independent artist and writer and director within the industry. Shelly has a number of films and projects in various stages of development and has just directed her debut feature film, A Bump Along The Way, A Northern Irish Screen – New Talent Focus film. A Bump Along The Way won ‘Best Irish First Feature’ at Galway Fleadh and had its International premier at the prestigious Toronto Film Festival. The film is being distributed by Element pictures and will be released in cinemas throughout the Island of Ireland from Oct 11th. So far the film has screened at 40 cinemas throughout Ireland. Recently A Bump Along The Way made it into the various categories in the long list for the BIFA’s including best breakthrough director.
